Realme has finally revealed its latest C-series smartphone and a brand-new Dynamic Island-style feature called Mini Capsule after a seemingly accidental reveal in February.
The Mini Capsule is similar to the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 14 Pro series in that it displays a variety of notifications from a black bar that covers the display’s single hole-punched camera.
In a promotional video, Realme demonstrated the Mini Capsule’s capabilities in part. Notifications for battery status, charging, step counts, and data usage are among the features; however, the latter two will be made available in the future through a software update.
Realme’s implementation seems to be pretty basic for a Dynamic Island clone, but it could get better or have new features added in future updates. In addition, this is the first official implementation from an Android OEM, despite the early third-party clones that appeared in the previous year.
The rest of the phone doesn’t really stand out. It has a flashy design, but the MediaTek Helio G88 chipset doesn’t do much to stand out. It has 256GB of storage, up to 16GB of RAM, and a 6.72-inch Full HD+ display with a refresh rate of 90Hz.
On the back is a 64MP essential camera combined with a depth sensor, and the front selfie camera houses an 8MP shooter.
The phone gets its power from a 5,000mAh battery that can handle 33W of fast charging. This seems slow when compared to the Realme GT3’s 240W charging that was shown off at MWC 2023.
The Realme C55 is currently available in the Rainy Night and Sunshower colorways and starts at Rp2,999,000, or approximately $195, in Indonesia. The phone will also go on sale “soon” in Europe.
