The innovation platform located in California intends to introduce many startup business accelerator programs to Frisco.
The California-based innovation platform Plug and Play recently announced that it will open its first office in the North Texas region in Frisco.
The action comes after the Board of Directors of the Frisco Economic Development Corporation (EDC) approved a performance-based incentive agreement back in October of this year.
According to the organization, as part of the expansion, “a series of startup business accelerator programs specific to Frisco’s innovation ecosystem” will be brought in.
Plug and Play Frisco states that initially, its focus will be on a Sportstech accelerator program that prioritizes human performance and potential. To further support North Texas’s innovative environment, additional future plans include for the addition of cohorts focused on cybersecurity, finance, health, and smart city technologies.
“We are so proud to launch Plug and Play Frisco in an effort to build the world’s most impactful Sportstech program,” said Saeed Amidi, founder and CEO of Plug and Play. “By identifying, investing, and accelerating the most promising startups, we will build a robust ecosystem of local and global stakeholders to engage with us and the rest of the community.”
With over 500 tech companies, including 350 startups, Frisco has been one of the fastest-growing communities in the United States during the last ten years.
Frisco City Council said that the cooperation with Plug and Play is in line with their aspirations for the Dallas-Fort Worth suburb, given the increasing need for an innovation center geared toward startups.
“Frisco has big ambitions when it comes to fostering innovation as our goal is to be the Venture Capital Capitol of the Central U.S. by 2040,” said Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney. “This partnership with Plug and Play directly supports that effort. The services and corporate connections Plug and Play brings to Frisco also helps bridge a gap in support for entrepreneurs in the local startup community by providing access and education to early-stage companies looking for funding and corporate involvement.”
