Today, Samsung Electronics announced that during CES® 2024, which takes place from January 9–12, it would be displaying fresh, creative products created from its C-Lab program. Samsung will feature 15 businesses and projects during the showcase at Eureka Park at the Venetian Expo in Las Vegas, the primary exhibition location for startups at the largest tech event in the world. This is the most startups and projects the company has ever featured.
More than 1,000 companies are anticipated to participate in this year’s CES, which is anticipated to draw over 130,000 global attendees including media, investors, and business executives. Samsung expects C-Lab companies to evaluate responses from the worldwide market, bolster their viability as a business, and network with investors during the event.
“The goal of the C-Lab program is to elevate a platform for startups to grow and flourish,” said Pilgyu Jeon, Executive Vice President and Head of the Creativity & Innovation Center at Samsung Electronics. “CES is the perfect venue for these exciting companies and projects to show major tech players that they belong on the global stage.”
Samsung launched the C-Lab program in 2012, and since then, the company has supported 872 companies and initiatives. This covers both 475 and 397 via C-Lab Inside and Outside. Specifically, 537 C-Lab businesses have raised $1 billion in financing altogether (62 from C-Lab Spin-off and 475 from C-Lab Outside).
C-Lab Outside: ten startups focused on energy, healthcare, and artificial intelligence
Since its founding in October 2018, C-Lab Outside has provided full support to selected entrepreneurs with office spaces, tailored development programs, investment opportunities, and commercial collaboration from Samsung Electronics. In order to provide its services on Samsung Smart TVs1, Dr. Tail, an online veterinarian consultation service, has partnered with Samsung Electronics. It will also be on display at the C-Lab booths at CES.
Samsung Electronics will showcase nine more firms chosen and funded by the C-Lab Outside initiative in addition to Dr. Tail:
- RebuilderAI: AI tools for creating 3D content on smartphones quickly and easily
- Ghost Pass: Distributed, remote biometric identity systems
- DEEPX: An AI semiconductor with an NPU basis
- Style Bot: A service that suggests clothes based on user-owned apparel data
- Vsion: A transparent, programmable smart window
- DolbomDream: An intelligent, inflatable garment intended to track senior persons’ health
- 60 Hertz: A virtual power plant (VPP) system driven by AI
- Wrtn Technologies: An AI portal service that is generative
- NdotLight: An online platform for collaborative 3D creation
“We are excited to be part of C-Lab’s high-profile startup booth at Eureka Park,” said Sunkwan Lee, CEO of Ghost Pass. “Thanks to the support of Samsung C-Lab, we won the CES Innovation Award this year, which I think makes this year’s CES a good opportunity for us to take a step toward going global.”
Three C-Lab spin-off startups that began at Samsung and Two C-Lab inside projects from Samsung employees
Since 2016, Samsung has been showcasing its C-Lab Inside projects at CES, and two of those concepts will be on display this year. Samsung is now fostering these projects internally. These pet-tech and healthcare-related projects have received great recognition for their originality, viability, and thoroughness:
- ID.EARS: An earbud-captured brain wave analysis platform for healthcare
- Vision AI is used in the pet training platform DumboCam.
Samsung Electronics started its C-Lab spin-off initiative in 2016, enabling the launch of high-potential C-Lab Inside ideas as full-fledged businesses. Three C-Lab spin-off companies, which were formerly C-Lab Inside projects, will exhibit their cutting-edge goods in C-Lab booths at CES 2024:
- Yellosis: Artificial intelligence-based healthcare solutions and smart toilets that measure liquid bodily waste
- Becon: AI-driven methods for managing hair loss
- Goose Labs: Motion-sensing avatars in real-time for a metaverse home workout app
C-Lab Entrepreneurs Take Home 23 CES 2024 Innovation Honors
The Consumer Technology Association (CTA) revealed the CES 2024 Innovation Awards winners in November 2023, including the recipient of the Best of Innovation award. One Best of Innovation Award and twenty-two Innovation Award Honorees were given to projects from the C-Lab program.
Samsung is assisting C-Lab companies in achieving success by imparting to them its knowledge of winning CES Innovation Awards and breaking into the international market. Sixteen C-Lab Outside startups were recognized as Innovation Award Honorees at CES 2024. Regarding the C-Lab Spin-off startups, four were named Innovation Award Honorees and one project was awarded the Best of Innovation Award.
In particular, the 2021 spinoff startup STUDIO LAB took up the Artificial Intelligence category’s CES Best of Innovation Award. The company offers two products: Photo-bot, an automated commerce photography robot that integrates robotics and AI, and Seller Canvas, an AI-based commerce detail page automation tool.
Two of the firms in the C-Lab booths, Yellosis and DEEPX, were each awarded Innovation Awards in three different categories. Cym702 Seat is a smart toilet that automatically detects liquid bodily waste and offers health management solutions. It was developed by Yellosis, a digital health firm that was spun off in 2020. Additionally, the business created the Cym702 Circle smart toilet, which in public restrooms analyzes the amount of glucose in liquid human excrement. In three categories—Digital Health, Smart Cities, and Human Security for All—Yellosis took the CES Innovation Awards.
Founded in 2018, DEEPX is a company that creates edge AI chips for the computational processing of AI algorithms, including picture classification, voice and face identification, object recognition based on deep learning, and image quality enhancement. Embedded Technologies, Robotics, and Computer Hardware & Components are the three categories in which DEEPX, the first AI semiconductor startup, won CES Innovation Awards.
