If you have any interest in the Google app ecosystem, you are probably aware of Google Calendar’s potential strength and usefulness. The service not only keeps track of forthcoming events but can also be utilized to effectively unite individuals and ensure that they are all in agreement with a certain activity. Task tracking is another feature of Google Calendar. It may also be used to automatically generate calendar events whenever you receive an email regarding a performance, hotel reservation, or travel.

For added convenience, the app can retrieve birthdays from your contact list and plan parties or send “happy birthday” messages to others. It may come as a surprise to you, but birthday events cannot presently be created in Google Calendar. And as of right moment, there’s no other way to add official birthday events to a calendar except the one described above. That will all soon change, though, since a recent upgrade allows birthday events to be manually added to Google Calendar on Android devices.

An improved method for celebrating birthdays

For some, this might not seem like a big thing, but for others, it will mean a lot. Additionally, Google has revealed via its Workspace Updates blog that this new functionality will ultimately make its way to the web and iOS devices, but Android users will get first dibs on it.

Naturally, Google has updated its developer guide to include some resources on working with the new birthday event type. Developers will also have new tools to work with in the Calendar API.

Regarding the release schedule, users who have selected the Rapid Release option should begin to see it on the web today. The full roll-out is anticipated to occur over the course of the following two weeks. There will be an upgrade for the app as well; it will begin to roll out on September 24 and take up to two weeks to reach its complete availability.

The upgrade will be available to those on the Scheduled Release track beginning next month, with a roll-out anticipated to begin on October 9. All users of Google Workspace and personal Google accounts will be able to get the update. This upgrade should be a terrific addition, especially since the web widget now looks much better after being recently updated.
