Strong winds forced Japanese startup Space One Co. to postpone Saturday’s rocket launch from a commercial spaceport in the western prefecture of Wakayama.
After an unsuccessful effort in March, the business hopes to become the first Japanese company to launch a satellite into orbit. Japan’s space sector, which has lagged behind other major economies in the field, may benefit from the launch.
The business stated it will try to launch the 18-meter-long solid-fuel Kairos No. 2 rocket on Sunday morning. The company was founded in 2018 by private companies looking to commercialize space delivery services by cutting prices and offering frequent rocket flights.
The abrupt postponement, which was announced roughly half an hour before the planned launch, caused some children to cry. A large crowd had gathered around the spaceport under clear skies.
An executive of Space One said at a press conference, “We apologize to everyone who was looking forward to the launch. Next time, we will successfully complete the mission.”
