Tesla Giga Texas Accelerates Production of New Standard Model Y Series

- April 4, 2025
According to Tesla’s Q1 2025 vehicle production and delivery report, the introduction of the new Model Y slowed down production and deliveries in the first quarter.
However, it seems that the ramp for the redesigned all-electric crossover is moving along rather nicely based on recent photos from Giga, Texas.
New Non-Launch Series Model Y
Only the Launch Series model of the new Model Y was available when Tesla began accepting orders in the US. For cars ordered with a black interior, the Model Y Launch Series comes with a unique rear lift gate badge, puddle light badge, doorsill plate wordmark, charging console wordmark, premium textile trim, and vegan suede. They also included Acceleration Boost and Full Self-Driving (Supervised).
At $59,990, the new Model Y Launch Series is somewhat expensive compared to inventory units of the Model Y original. The Launch Series is still the sole trim available for purchase, at least as of this writing, according to a review of Tesla’s order website for the new Model Y in the US.
Fresh Observations
According to pictures posted online by drone operator and frequent Giga Texas observer Joe Tegtmeyer, Tesla appears to have begun ramping up manufacturing of the new Model Y non-Launch Series cars. Several brand-new Model Y units that were spotted in the Giga Texas complex demonstrated this.
The vehicles lacked the Launch Series emblem on the back, as seen in the pictures, and instead had a standard “Dual Motor” badge. Remarkably, all of the new Model Y units that weren’t part of the Launch Series appeared to have black interiors. This is comparable to the Launch Series, which is likewise limited to black interiors in the US. Although Tesla has not provided an explanation for its decision to begin manufacturing non-Launch Series models of the forthcoming Model Y, rumors indicate that regular deliveries of the car would soon begin.
In its first quarter 2025 car production and delivery report, Tesla reported that 323,800 Model 3 and Model Y automobiles were sold. Given that Giga Texas is currently manufacturing non-Launch Series models of the new Model Y, there appears to be a reasonable probability that Tesla’s car deliveries will significantly increase in the second quarter of 2025.
