The distribution board is one of the most critical elements of any electric fitting, whether you’re at home or office, in case of any emergency or electrical needs, one first checks the electrical fuse and circuit board. We must know the different electronic components of a distribution board.
This helps us in understanding how the system works, and if anything goes wrong, the right steps to take. The distribution board’s primary function is to make sure that the power that comes in is equally distributed throughout the space. And this is done by components such as the RCCB and ELCB.
One may get confused between RCCB and an ELCB while designing your distribution board. But you need to know what exactly they are and hence what the difference between them is.
What is an RCCB?
RCCB is an electrical wiring device which acts as a protective device and protects one from electrical damages. Residual Current Circuit Breaker (RCCB) is a protective device which senses the power flowing and offers protection against mishaps like earth leakage.
It follows the principle of ‘Kirchhoff’s Current Law’ which states that ‘The amount of current entering the circuit must be equal to the amount of current leaving the circuit,’ i.e. the sum of the total (incoming + outgoing) current should be 0.
What is an ELCB?
ELCB stands for Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker. They have a similar function as RCCB but are voltage sensor devices. This is an old technology & is not in everyday use now. Yet, there are individual differences between RCCB and ELCB.
The Difference Between an RCCB and an ELCB
- RCCB is a new name and refers to current operating devices. ELCB, on the other hand, refers to a voltage-operated earth leakage device.
- RCCB ensures 100% detection of leakage current & is also available to sense the AC as well as DC leakage current.
ELCB is not preferable as it can only detect current that flow back through the primary earth wire. Hence, RCCB will be more helpful when you face an electric hazard such as an electric shock or a short circuit.
- RCCB has no connection with the earth wire. It trips when both currents (phase and neutral) are different.
ELCB works only based on the Earth leakage current. It will trip if the voltage is more than zero on earth wire.
By now you must have understood that it is preferable to update your ELCB to an RCCB. Choose Indoasian’s Caretron RCCB; it is an advanced version of ELCB. It works without an earthing wire and also detects 100% leakage current. Hence, you can say goodbye to earth faults.
IndoAsian’s RCCB manufacturing standards are IEC- 61008/IS- 12640. If you’re looking for any high-quality electrical components such as modular switches or sockets or switchboards, then don’t forget to check out Indoasian.
Their wide range in Elvira collection and Glint collection will fulfil all your electrical needs. Indoasian is known for its safeguarding measures. Now you can heave a sigh of relief and let Indoasian take care of your family’s safety.
