Adele has become the latest – and apparently the greatest – artist to declare a Las Vegas show residency.
Ends of the week With Adele will happen between 21 January and 16 April 2022, with two shows each weekend. Tickets go on general sale on 7 December.
The concerts at The Colosseum, Caesars Palace Hotel, come following her fourth album 30, released recently to general critical acclaim and enormous commercial achievement. It is at No 1 in the UK and US, where it becamethe year’s greatest selling album after only three days at a sale.
Adele performed two one-off concerts to mark the album’s release, her first shows since June 2017 when she shut her world tour with two nights at Wembley Stadium (two last shows were cancelled because of damaged vocal cords).
Her show at London’s Palladium, screened on TV, was given five stars in a Guardian review by Rachel Aroesti: “Adele’s singing is incredible … There’s little doubt Adele surpassed whatever expectations anyone might have had of her hosting skills: it’s hard to imagine anybody doing this better.”
The Vegas shows, which decrease the tensions of international touring, are a canny move from an artist who lives primarily in Los Angeles, and the somewhat little 4,100-capacity venue will take advantage of her natural abilities as a between-song conversationalist. Adele let one know crowd during her past world visit that “touring isn’t something I’m good at. Applause makes me feel a bit vulnerable. I don’t know if I will ever tour again. The only reason I’ve toured is you. I’m not sure if touring is my bag.”
She becomes the latest star to take on a Vegas residency, with Jennifer Lopez, Lady Gaga, Céline Dion, Britney Spears and Elton John generally getting rewarding show deals in the city in recent years.
Tickets for Weekends With Adele will initially be accessible by means of a presale to registered fans, who should join by Friday. Forebodingly, Ticketmaster states: “If demand from Verified Fans exceeds supply there will not be a Public Onsale.”
