A few months ago, users took to Google’s forums to complain that Android Auto was no longer alerting them when new messages arrived on their phones. Some users reported that other notifications from third-party messengers were also broken, despite the majority of users saying that only the normal text messaging experience was affected.
Despite intervening and requesting additional data to aid in a possible inquiry, Google’s Community Specialists have not yet released any changes.
In the meantime, more users are experiencing the problem; 220 people have confirmed they have the same mistake in their automobiles by using the “me too” option on the forums. Considering that not all members visit the forums, the actual number of users affected by this bug is probably much greater.
Thankfully, users have also looked into the issue and discovered two solutions that allow their automobiles to again get SMS notifications.
Enabling popup notifications in the Messages settings is the first step toward a solution. A forum user verified the workaround by stating that they are unable to receive message notifications on Android Auto if they disable this functionality (turn off pop-ups for the Messages app). It’s unclear how and why the option was turned off, although some people think the modification was made covertly in a recent Android upgrade.
The second option is a complete downgrade to Android Auto 11.7. As Android Auto 12.6 is the most recent stable version, you may understand that upgrading to such an earlier edition will prevent you from taking use of all the most recent enhancements. Thankfully, Google hasn’t released many new features recently, so installing Android Auto 11.7 may simply result in the loss of the newest bug fixes and speed enhancements.
Although Android Auto 11.7 solves the issue and lets users use the app without the message notification glitch, a user has reported that the app keeps asking them to update. Although blocking the automatic upgrade allows users to keep using Android Auto 11.7 until Google mandates the installation of a newer version, this is still a concern. In the interim, hopefully, the company will also release a workaround.
Installing the most recent Android Auto updates, deleting data and cache, switching out connectors, and doing anything else that might address the most prevalent faults in the world have no effect on the issue at hand. The only choice is to continue using one of the two previously described workarounds because the most recent versions of Android Auto do not provide message notifications.
