Apple announced on Monday that it will invest RMB 720 million ($99.22 million) to initiate the second phase of the China Clean Energy Fund, as part of its goal to transition its supply chain to 100% renewable energy by 2030.
Made during a visit to Beijing by CEO Tim Cook, the decision is intended to bolster the company’s clean energy capacity in China.
According to the company’s statement, the fund aims to add approximately 550,000 megawatt-hours of wind and solar capacity to China’s grid annually with Apple’s anchor investment, and this figure is expected to increase as more investors come on board.
Initially introduced in 2018, the China Clean Energy Fund links suppliers to renewable energy initiatives.
Apple considers China a crucial market and a key manufacturing center. Cook is attending the 2025 China Development Forum, which began on Sunday, alongside other international executives.
