With a WLTP range of up to 348 miles (560 km), BMW is introducing the i5 Touring, its first all-electric luxury wagon. The BMW wagon is a luxurious and cutting-edge vehicle. It now has new features, is more athletic, and may be purchased only as an electric vehicle.
Introducing The All-Electric BMW i5 Touring, a Luxurious Wagon
BMW is growing its selection with the launch of the all-electric 5 series in May of last year. In October, the first BMW 5-series electric vehicles showed up at US dealerships.
It comes in two trim levels: the eDrive40 and the M60, which is a high-performance variant. With the i5 Touring, BMW is now introducing its first electric wagon. The new Touring model is a “sophisticated all-rounder for everyday driving,” according to BMW.
The Touring’s roof is longer than that of the sedan, and its improved design improves its aerodynamics.
Compared to the previous model, the new 5 series wagon is 97 mm (3.8 inches) longer, 32 mm (1.3 inches) wider, and 17 mm (0.7 inches) taller. At 2,995 mm (118′′), it also has the longest wheelbase of any vehicle in its class.
The new model has the same 570 L storage capacity, which increases to 1,700 L when the rear seats are folded down, despite being larger.
Increased Functionality, Range, and Features
The eDrive40 Touring and M60 xDrive are the two initial configurations of the BMW i5 Touring that will be offered. With a maximum output of 601 horsepower (442 kW), two electric motors power the powerful BMW i5 M60 xDrive Touring.
The EV’s torque increases to 605 lb-ft (820 Nm) when M launch control is engaged, allowing it to reach 62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 3.9 seconds.
The rear electric motor of the base i5 eDrive40 Touring, meanwhile, has a maximum power of 340 horsepower (250 kW) and torque of 317 lb-ft (430 Nm).
For both variants, an 81.2 kWh battery is used. To increase range, BMW included a heat pump and adaptive recuperation. The WLTP range of the eDrive 40 is 300–348 miles (483–560 km), whilst the M60 variant is 277–314 miles (445–506 km).
The i5 Touring has standard 11 kW AC charge (22 kW optional) and up to 205 kW DC charging capacity.
BMW equipped its new electric wagon with the newest hardware and software available. This contains a revamped home screen for convenience, BMW OS 8.5, and an improved Drive display. Additionally, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard features.
BMW is introducing the i5 Touring in addition to PHEV, diesel, and gas variants. The company’s Dingolfing plant will construct it, and in May, it will make its debuts in Germany, along with “many European countries” and Japan. In June 2024, other markets will follow, according to BMW.
