CES 2023: The updated M8 Smart Monitor, an Apple Studio Display rival, is one of Samsung’s most recent monitors

Samsung has announced a number of new monitors ahead of CES 2023 this week. The ViewFinity S9, Samsung’s first 27-inch 5K display that will compete with Apple’s Studio Display, may be the most interesting model for Apple users.

Although 27-inch 5K displays are still fairly uncommon, Apple has long supported the higher pixel density because it allows it to display content of true Retina quality at a manageable size. Very much like the Studio Show and Apple’s previous 27-inch iMac, Samsung’s ViewFinity S9 will include a 5120 x 2880 presentation, and its wide variety range will cover the vast majority of the DCI-P3 range while HDR600 support further develops shadows and features.

The ViewFinity S9 has a matte finish to reduce glare, connectivity via USB-C and Thunderbolt 4, and a 4K SlimFit camera.

Pricing has not yet been made public, but it will be available “early” this year.

Also getting an update is the well-liked Smart Monitor M8 from Samsung, which now comes in a size of 27 inches instead of the previous 32 inches. There are four color options and height and tilt adjustments for both sizes, which come with 4K resolution.

For those who prefer different mounting options, the M8 now supports VESA standards and can pivot to 90 degrees for portrait orientation. The display’s included apps, such as Samsung’s SmartThings Hub for managing connected home devices and Smart Hub for dedicated apps like Prime Video, Netflix, and YouTube, have new mouse support, and the 2K SlimFit camera has been upgraded.

Evaluating and a delivery date still can’t seem to be declared.

The Odyssey Neo G9, a 57-inch 32:9 super ultra-wide curved display with a resolution of 7680 x 2160 and a 240 Hz response rate, is one of several new Odyssey gaming monitors that Samsung is announcing alongside the ViewFinity S9 and Smart Monitor M8.

The Odyssey OLED G9 is the final option, a 49-inch curved OLED gaming monitor with a 240 Hz response rate and a response time of 0.1 milliseconds. Pricing for both displays hasn’t been announced, but they will be available “later” this year.
