Prague-based Vrgineers has partnered with Nvidia and AMD to create a novel architecture for mixed reality simulations that makes use of both firms’ innovative graphical hardware.
The new mixed reality headgear, known as the Xtal 3 Cavu, processes high definition mixed reality images quickly and specifically thanks to a special setup that includes 24Mpix image sensors linked to an AMD Xilinx FPGA card. Additionally, it employs the most recent Nvidia Quadro RTX A6000 GPU to manage latency and handle VR graphics.
When compared to conventional solutions, this novel architecture significantly improves mixed reality performance, allowing for substantially higher image quality and lower latency. It is more power-efficient and conserves resources. The Xtal 3 model was developed with direct input from pilots, according to the manufacturer. In order to maximize field of vision, visual clarity, and user comfort during rigorous flight simulation training, it was designed. Vrgineers’ new mixed reality add-on module builds on their XTAL 3 VR headset by combining VR graphics with interactive physical switches and levers to create more lifelike simulations.
Originally established in 2017 to manufacture virtual reality gaming headsets, Vrgineers has subsequently expanded to provide professional services to aerospace and military industry clients. The business designs its aviation-focused VR products primarily with feedback from pilots, instructors, and other subject matter experts. In 2024, the technology will be supplied to partners including the US Navy and integrated into Vrgineers’ MR classroom simulators. Additionally, as a less expensive option for mixed reality training, they provide the Xtal 3 Neo.
