Demonstrating ‘o3’ reasoning AI models in testing, OpenAI

OpenAI announced on Friday that it was testing two new reasoning AI models, called O3 and O3 small, as part of an increasing battle with competitors like Google to develop more intelligent models that can solve challenging issues.

According to CEO Sam Altman, the AI startup intends to release O3 tiny by the end of January and O3 full later since more powerful large language models may perform better than current models and draw in more users and investors.

In September, OpenAI, a company sponsored by Microsoft (MSFT.O), unveiled its first AI models that are intended to spend more time answering questions in order to tackle challenging issues.

According to a blog post by the AI company, the O1 models can reason through complicated tasks and tackle more difficult challenges than earlier models in math, science, and coding.

According to the business, OpenAI’s recently released o3 and o3 tiny models, which are presently undergoing internal safety testing, will have greater power than its earlier o1 models.

Prior to the public release, which is scheduled to end on January 10, the GenAI pioneer announced that it is now accepting applications from outside researchers to test o3 models.

When OpenAI introduced ChatGPT in November 2022, it set off an AI arms race. In October, OpenAI closed a $6.6 billion investment round, aided by the company’s increasing popularity and the introduction of new products.

In an attempt to regain the lead in the race for AI technology, rival Alphabet’s (GOOGL.O) Google earlier in December unveiled the second version of its AI model, Gemini.
