There will be football royalty on the show. ESPN announced on Thursday that Joe Namath will select the celebrity guests prior to Alabama’s matchup with Texas.
Namath is regarded as one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time and one of Alabama’s greatest players. He was the starter for the Alabama Crimson Tide from 1962 to 1964, when the team won the national championship and went 29-4 under the legendary Bear Bryant. He was then selected by the New York Jets with the No. 1 in general pick in the 1965 AFL Draft, and the rest is history.
Probably the most important game of Week 2 will feature Namath among the big names in attendance. Before Alabama vs. Texas at 7 p.m. ET, both College GameDay and The Pat McAfee Show will broadcast from Tuscaloosa.
Namath is one of the extraordinary quarterbacks in NFL history after the consolidation. He assisted the Planes to a Super Bowl III title as a feature of his Lobby of Notoriety with careering, which included three second group All-AFL determinations and a Super Bowl MVP grant in that triumph over the Baltimore Yearlings.
After his retirement, the Planes resigned Namath’s No. 12 and incorporated him into their Honorary Ring. In 1985, he was buried in Canton.
This will not be Namath’s most memorable time as School GameDay’s visitor picker at his place of graduation. He did it before the Iron Bowl against Auburn in 2020, and he will do it again before one of the most important college football games at Bryant Denny Stadium.
Will Reichard’s kick in last year’s Texas-Alabama game gave the Crimson Tide a 20-19 victory in Austin, which was a thrilling contest. Yet again this season, a lot is on the line as the two groups rank in the main 12 of the AP Top 25 delivered recently. Alabama ranked No. 3 whereas Texas ranked No. 11 after both teams won in the first week.
Everyone’s eyes will be on the quarterback position with Quinn Ewers back as the Longhorns’ starter and as Jalen Milroe hopes to expand on an enormous Week 1 execution in his initial beginning. Ewers threw for 260 yards and three touchdowns against Rice, while Milroe had 194 passing yards, 48 rushing yards, three passing touchdowns, and two rushing scores against Middle Tennessee State. Both quarterbacks looked impressive.
As the future rivals of the SEC meet in Tuscaloosa, their performances will be crucial.
