As part of a new one-stop shop to increase adoption of the technology, the European Commission announced on Wednesday that companies in Europe will have easier access to supercomputers specialized to artificial intelligence to aid in the development of general purpose AI models.
The EU executive’s plan comes after a pact last month between EU nations and legislators on historic regulations for the use of huge, potent AI models like Google’s (GOOGL.O) opens new tab Bard and Microsoft’s (MSFT.O), opens new tab ChatGPT.
According to the Commission, the one-stop shop, or so-called AI Factories, would help researchers and entrepreneurs in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) develop algorithms, test and validate large-scale models, and easier access to supercomputers specialized to AI.
“In a statement, EU industry chief Thierry Breton said, ‘Today, we announce the launch of AI Factories, bringing together the ‘raw materials’ for AI: computing power, data, algorithms, and talent.”
With the technology being used in a wide range of sectors and applications, Europe is competing with the US and China to become the leader in this field.
