Gemini, Google’s AI chatbot, has been integrated into its mapping apps with the goal of improving user experience by providing more contextually relevant and personalized search results.
Following Google’s efforts to catch up in the AI space and more effectively compete with rivals like OpenAI, the integration was revealed on Thursday.
With more than 2 billion monthly active users, Google Maps has added Gemini to offer more personalized recommendations depending on user circumstances like time and location, such as neighboring speakeasies or live music venues. “It’s not just ‘what’s close to me?'” In reality, it’s “What can I do tonight?” said Miriam Daniel, vice president of consumer experiences at Google Maps.
Gemini’s integration also includes Google Earth and Waze, providing voice-activated incident reporting for Waze drivers and AI-powered tools for developers and urban planners to analyze map data.
