The Google app for Android is introducing a dedicated “Notifications” feed in its bottom bar, following its addition on mobile web in March.
Notifications replaces Discover, Search, and Saved as the fourth item in the bottom bar, using a normal bell icon. The fact that the Google app is among the last first-party customers to not have updated to a Material 3 design is really highlighted by this. Even the Google app for iOS has relocated, and in a recent update, the corresponding text labels were eliminated to better align with Gmail.)
The feed displays alerts from Google Search, which include the word of the day, available movies and TV series, sports scores, airline information, and current and forecast weather. The categories are “Today” and “Earlier.”
Notifications from the Google app are more focused and helpful if you ever miss them than the system-level history on Android. The alert’s related search term will appear when you tap, and each item’s overflow menu offers the options to Delete, Don’t get notifications like this, and Send feedback.
