Late in 2022, Google Contacts for Android added a Highlights page. However, a subsequent minor update deleted the newly added area.
The Recents, For you birthdays, and Favorites grid are located under the Highlights tab. The tabs labeled “Viewed” and “Added” used to display five of your most recent contacts that you have accessed and made.
Google has now taken down the portion that was introduced recently. In theory, the newly generated contacts will show up in Recents as soon as they open after you save. The “Added” date is still present at the bottom of a contact in the interim.
Overall, the Highlights page has been somewhat simplified by this odd omission. Since it only displays local creations, one reason might be that it doesn’t reflect contacts made online.
The “Besties” widget is still being worked on in the interim. The most recent description of it refers to it as “Pixel Besties” and states that you can “view your recent communications and memories with your favorite people.” What memories will come to light is uncertain.
This seems to take the Individual contact widget’s notification feature and apply it to Favorite contacts, where users can view up to seven starred individuals.
