On April 10th, Google will launch the Pixel 9A in the US, Canada, and the UK. The affordable device was anticipated to launch soon after its March 19th reveal, but Google postponed it to look into a “component quality issue.”
The Pixel 9A will be available in the rest of Europe starting April 14th, and in Australia, India, Singapore, Taiwan, and Malaysia on April 16th. According to Google, the phone will be “coming soon” to Japan. While Google’s site does not currently allow for preorders of the Pixel 9A, you can register to receive a notification when it becomes available.
In response to inquiries about the delay, Google spokesperson Matt Flegal stated, “rumors and speculation regarding this delay are false.” He stated, “A passive component in the Pixel 9a failed to meet our strict quality standards for device longevity, and instead of shipping it, we made the tough decision to delay its arrival on shelves and take corrective action on the few affected units.”
The starting price of the Pixel 9A is $499. It features a larger display than the previous model, an enhanced Tensor G4 chip, and a design that replaces the Pixel’s noticeable camera bump with a flat back. Although it is compatible with Google Gemini, it operates on a scaled-down version of the AI model, which means it lacks features such as Pixel Screenshots and Call Notes.
