Helping Hand for Relief and Development (HHRD) focus on rebuilding lives across Pakistan, Afghanistan, Morocco, and Northwestern Syria. HHRD has successfully established sustainable villages through its Shelter Relief Program to provide long-term relief to displaced and vulnerable communities.
These model villages, each consisting of approximately 100 homes, were constructed in Afrin (Northwestern Syria), Chak Patyat (Pakistan), Herat (Afghanistan), and Marrakesh (Morocco). These homes have essential amenities such as solar panels, mosques, libraries, schools, water wells, and home water filtration units. Beyond providing shelter, HHRD also integrates livelihood support through its Seed of Hope initiative, which supplies families with cattle and seeds for farming, promoting self-sufficiency and economic stability.
Impact of Shelter for Refugees Program
The plight of refugees in regions like Bangladesh, Jordan, Lebanon, and Gaza remains critical. Many vulnerable populations, including Syrians, Palestinians, and Rohingya, are forced to live in poorly constructed shelters in overcrowded refugee camps. HHRD recognises the urgent need for proper housing and has implemented initiatives such as the Caravan Homes Project and the Shelter of Hope Homes Project to provide safe and durable living spaces.
- The Caravan Homes Project in Jordan, particularly in the Zaatari refugee camp, has been operational since 2017. These 6×3 meters homes feature galvanised steel structures, offering protection against extreme weather and ensuring a dignified living space for families.
- Since 2018, Bangladesh’s Shelter of Hope Homes Project has provided sustainable housing for Rohingya refugees. Each 150-square-foot home is constructed with bamboo, reinforced concrete fencing, and solid cement flooring, improving the safety and well-being of Myanmar refugees. Additionally, the integration of solar power in these shelters enhances residents’ quality of life by providing electricity for essential needs such as lighting, communication, education, and healthcare.
HHRD Rebuilding Homes for Palestinian Refugees
Due to ageing infrastructure, living conditions in refugee camps such as Gaza and Souf remain dire for many Palestinian refugees and local Jordanians. Since 2017, HHRD’s Home Renovation Project has focused on improving these conditions by repairing and expanding homes in 13 refugee camps. These renovations help create healthier living environments, offering families a renewed sense of stability and hope for the future.

Providing Education for a Brighter Future for Refugee Children
HHRD is committed to ensuring that refugee children receive access to education. Through its collaboration with the Education Ministry, HHRD MENA (Middle East and North Africa) has established Learning Centers in Jordan equipped with classrooms, restrooms, furniture, and other amenities. These centres are crucial in addressing the overcrowding of Jordanian schools and enabling out-of-school refugee children to receive primary education. By facilitating access to education, HHRD empowers refugee children to pass national exams and integrate into formal schools, paving the way for a brighter future.
