In an effort to improve the city’s connection within the Greater Bay Area (GBA), the HK6 facility will be connected with Equinix’s current network of five data centers in the area.
“This investment is our largest in Hong Kong in the past decade and reflects our continued commitment to strengthening the city’s digital infrastructure. HK6 will play a significant role in reinforcing Hong Kong’s status as a vital data exchange point between China and the global market,” said Joanne Hon, Managing Director at Equinix Hong Kong.
Situated in Tsuen Wan, approximately 1.5 km away from Equinix’s current data centers in HK1, HK2, and HK3, HK6 is a purposeful augmentation of the city’s digital network. It is anticipated that the new location would be able to meet the growing needs of both domestic and foreign companies for connectivity and data services.
The data center will be equipped with liquid cooling technology, which is specifically made to manage the heat produced by high-performance computing, especially for applications related to artificial intelligence (AI). When it comes to preserving performance and scalability in AI infrastructure, liquid cooling provides a more effective way to manage heat than standard cooling systems.
In keeping with Equinix’s objective of become carbon neutral by 2030, HK6 will run exclusively on renewable energy. The data center will also help Hong Kong achieve its Climate Action Plan 2050, which aims to cut carbon emissions and energy use.
With a 1,000 cabinet capacity initially, the first phase of HK6 is expected to open in Q1 2026. The 17-story data center will accommodate the demands of cloud and financial service providers with 3,550 cabinets when it is finished.
