Users of Windows 10 PCs are now having trouble updating or uninstalling apps, in addition to a fresh wave of full-screen Windows 11 advertisements. Details about the bug have been disclosed on the official Windows Health Dashboard website by Microsoft.
The most recent defect is unrelated to any particular Windows update or security patch, in contrast to other documented problems in Windows 10 and 11. According to Microsoft, the issue is concealed in the WinAppSDK 1.6.2 package, which was released on November 12, 2024. Because of this, the Microsoft Store displays the “Something happened on our end” error whenever users try to upgrade a packaged product that depends on WinAppSDK.
Numerous apps are impacted by the problem. Currently, the WinAppSDK problem prevents Microsoft Teams and other first- and third-party apps from updating on Windows 10. Microsoft claims that a remedy for the issue should be ready in a few days and that it is trying to resolve it through a Windows update or other means. IT administrators can get PowerShell instructions to resolve impacted devices and stalled apps on GitHub in the interim.
It’s also important to note that Windows 11 is not affected. Only Windows 10 version 22H2 is impacted, according to Microsoft, therefore users of more recent Windows releases shouldn’t see any problems updating or removing packaged apps. Additionally, Windows 10 and 11 have no effect on Win32 apps.
Users of Windows 10 are experiencing app issues for the second time. Microsoft informed users in early November that installing KB5043131 would prevent some programs from starting. The issue was fixed by Microsoft in KB5046613, which was made available on November 12, 2024.
