Tesla and Samsung Introduce SmartThings Integration for Energy Management

After initially being revealed at CES 2024 in January, the integration is now officially live, allowing the SmartThings app to show data regarding energy generation, storage, and consumption for Tesla devices like as the Powerwall, Solar Inverter, and Wall Connector.

Samsung says that this gives customers greater access to solar production, backup duration, and home energy usage by enabling them to receive home energy notifications from the Tesla app on a Samsung TV.

Furthermore, Tesla alerts on Samsung smartphones will provide customers with data on energy usage within their homes, enabling them to make well-informed decisions about the length of their backup and encouraging them to turn off high-energy-consuming appliances.

In addition to the Tesla app, owners of the Powerwall will also be able to receive warnings through their Samsung smart TVs and mobile devices. The Powerwall is designed to automatically detect power outages and start supplying the house with backup energy that has been stored. A Storm Watch function will automatically charge the Powerwall in anticipation of a power interruption if a storm is predicted.

In addition, users may set up alerts in the SmartThings app to receive warnings on a Samsung TV or in the app in the event of an impending storm or an outage at their site. After then, users can take steps to stay away from high-energy gadgets.

With Tesla products, automation rules can be set up to prioritize backup power charging or to lower power when the Powerwall enters Off-Grid mode.

Samsung gave Tesla’s open APIs on its products credit for the integrations in January.

“At Tesla we are excited to add capability to our products to interact with other intelligent devices and software in customers’ homes. We recently published FleetAPI, allowing developers to interact with Powerwall, Solar and Wall Connector in addition to our vehicles,” said Drew Baglino, Tesla.

“We are pleased that Samsung has chosen to be an early developer, given its leading position in consumer smart home technology. Customers will be able to view the status of their grid connectivity across multiple devices and intelligently control home loads to extend their Powerwall energy when off grid.”
