The year 2020 was very important for Yung Gecko’s music career. Having released 4 singles,
“Fake Friends” was his first song with a meaningful message behind it. Producing the beat
himself, Yung Gecko was aiming for a unique style with a piano melody and a wide variety of
percussion. With it being his 4th year of creating beats, this production clicked with Yung Gecko
and he felt an urge to add lyrics to it.

The title “Fake Friends” compresses the song’s entire message, which discusses the issues of trusting others with information and how people are so quick to bring their “friends” to the ground. Yung Gecko has recorded music with lyrics in the past, but they were not taken seriously compared to his debut single. Throughout the year 2020, “Fake Friends” was able to gain almost 1 million total streams and continues to grow as his music continues to be discovered. Gecko felt that he was now able to positively impact people with his work. Knowing that he could do something he enjoyed while putting smiles on the faces of others, Yung Gecko continues to release music to keep him and his fans happy.
