On the opening day of the Chengdu auto show, BYD debuted the Xia MPV, the first model in the array, as well as a new model sequence designed to broaden its product line.
Xia MPV will go on sale within the year and be priced in the RMB 300,000 yuan ($42,340) class, BYD announced today.
The Xia was the first Chinese dynasty to be documented; the model is part of BYD’s Dynasty lineup. The Ocean is BYD’s other main lineup.
Former model families in BYD’s Dynasty series are called after actual Chinese dynasties: the Han, Tang, Qin, Song, and Yuan.
BYD’s fifth-generation DM hybrid technology, which was revealed on May 28 and offers reduced fuel usage, will power the Xia MPV.
The dimensions of the vehicle are 5,145 mm in length, 1,970 mm in width, and 1,805 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,045 mm.
The sole MPV now offered in China by BYD Group is the D9 sub-brand, which has a wheelbase of 3,110 mm and dimensions of 5,250 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width, and 1,920 mm in height.
For the last five months, the Denza D9 has sold about 10,000 copies each month. According to data provided by CnEVPost, Denza’s monthly sales of 10,340 were made up of 9,030 units sold by the D9, or 87% of the total.
BYD released the Song Max DM-i, the brand’s only MPV in the previous two years, in China on March 12, 2022. The Song Max DM-i is no longer displayed on BYD’s website.
Remarkably, BYD declared on July 21 that it had introduced the M6 electric MPV, the country’s first all-electric MPV, into the Indonesian market. China does not have access to the M6.
